Tour of the Roslyn, WA Cemetery
1 May 2004
G&FH Agenda
UW Genealogy and Family History Alumni May Meeting
Tour of the Roslyn, WA Cemetery
When: Saturday, 1 May 2004. Please arrive at the cemetery entrance so the tour can start at 10 AM
Tour Coordinator: Kathy Kerr, a 1997 course graduate
Please join Kathy for a walking tour and explanation of this historic and scenic cemetery. The Roslyn Cemetery is really 29 cemeteries at the same location.
Her walk and talk will take just over an hour. After that Kathy will start us out on a "grave scavenger hunt." She takes many groups to the Cemetery and the "hunt" has proven to be a highlight of her tour.
It would be hard to find a cemetery with more historical significance in the state of Washington than the Roslyn Cemetery, which seems to sit right in the middle of the woods. During the coal mining era, settlers of all nationalities lived in the area. There are approximately 24 different nationalities represented, and many have their own cemetery within the Roslyn Cemetery itself. For more information about the cemetery and Roslyn visit web site http://www.rootsweb.com/~wakittit/Roslyn.htm
Please visit web site http://www.interment.net/data/us/wa/kittitas/oldcity/oldcity.htm to view a map of the many sections of the Roslyn Cemetery. This site also has a name list of those buried in the cemeteries.
Please dress for all kinds of weather. Even if it is sunny out, bring a jacket as the wind does blow there and can tend to make even a nice day chilly.
Bring a snack or lunch or eat in a Roslyn cafe.
Location: Roslyn Cemetery, Roslyn, WA
From I-90 eastbound take exit number 80. Follow route 903 to Roslyn. From Roslyn, the Old City Cemetery can be reached by driving west on Pennsylvania Avenue (the Main Street of Roslyn) to Memorial Road where you turn left. Continue on the black top road past the right turn until you see the cemetery on your right. A dirt road goes up the hill through the right portion of this cemetery.

Tentative GFH Alumni Meeting Plans
July 2004 Alumni Meeting: TBD
September or October 2004
Join us for a personal tour of the genealogy section in the new downtown Seattle Public Library. The tour will be conducted by the library's genealogy staff. The dates are tentative because of their moving schedule and their "settling in" period.
September 2004
A research trip to the Family History Library in Salt Lake City. The following is from an earlier posting prepared by Carol Pattison.
September 5-12, with Sept 5 as a travel day, is the time set for our trip to Salt Lake City. Please go ahead and book your reservations as soon as possible. Even if you haven't made up your mind yet, book a room anyway as you can cancel it.
Since the majority seems to prefer the Best Western, I have set up a group for us to book under. When you call, let them know that you are going to be part of the U of W Genealogy Alumni Group so you can get the discount on your room. We need at least 10 rooms booked to get the discount. I'd (Carol) appreciate it if you would let me know when you book your room so that I can keep track of who's going.
Please contact Carol Pattison at email address Maycreek@Aol.Com for other details and the information about the room reservation.
