September 8 Alumni Association Meeting
Fabulous Fall is quickly closing in on us and with that season many of us are ready to jump start our genealogy research. Our next meeting will be held September 8 at the Shoreline Library. One of our very own alumni, Mary Roddy, will be our special guest speaker and she will be presenting a most interesting topic "Bagging a Live One."
Mary is a CPA by profession and has recently become the Director of Publications for the Seattle Genealogy Society. She states that genealogy is her passion and has been actively researching her Irish roots since 2000 when she and her family lived in Ireland on a sabbatical trip. Mary is a 2005 graduate of the Genealogy and Family History Program at the University of Washington. Additionally, she participated in the Nearby History writing seminar at MOHAI in 2006.
The presentation, "Bagging a Live One", will show us how to use internet search techniques, combined with obituaries and census records, to find distant and not-so-distant relatives. The goal, through these exchanges, is to connect with other parts of our families, perhaps sharing photographs, heirlooms and stories about our common ancestors. During the past year, Mary claims she has bagged a dozen or more cousins exchanging pictures, diaries, bibles and most importantly making new friends.
The meeting is scheduled for September 8, 2007 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Shoreline Regional Library. The library opens at 10 a.m. for
those folks who would like to come early and help set up chairs.
Directions to the library.
Lunch: Everyone is invited to lunch at 1 p.m. at the Canyons Restaurant, 6003 244th SW, Mountlake Terrance, WA. The reservation is under the name of Janice Campbell-Stout.
